Precision Chiropractic's structural corrective chiropractic care and Bikram Yoga, a healing combination!
Being really stiff is not only uncomfortable, it’s also no bueno for the health of your joints and your brain!
Let’s first take a look at how stiff joints, especially those in your spine, affect your brain. Proprioception refers to our body’s sense of where it is in space, the position of our spine and limbs, and how they are moving through space. Proprioception also contributes to our sense of balance. 60% of proprioceptive input into the brain comes from your spine…and a third of that comes from your upper neck region! Your brain relies on movement from your spine for information and neurological stimulation. Normal spinal alignment and movement is comparable to plugging your cell phone in to the outlet to charge, it charges your brain’s “batteries”. That’s why it is so important to get your spine checked for structural shifts and get them corrected by a chiropractor who focuses on structural correction. Lucky for you, if you are receiving this email, it means that you have been receiving specific structural corrective care here at Precision. Your brain thanks you! We also thank you...taking care of our practice members is an honor and pleasure for both Dr. Andrew and I.
To keep your joints as healthy as they can be at any age, we recommend moving every joint in every range of motion, every day. Why? Because your joints do not have direct vascular supply, therefore they need movement to stay healthy. Your joints rely on movement to get the good stuff in (fresh oxygenated blood flow, nutrients and lubrication) and the bad stuff out (cellular waste products). Lack of proper alignment and movement can lead to degenerative changes within the joint. Arthritis is not an age thing, nor are "bad backs" inherited from your parents. Degenerative arthritis is a condition directly related to joints that aren’t aligned nor moving properly and have gravitational forces constantly coming down on them. Proper alignment and movement is essential for the health of all of your joints.
So now we know that not only do stiff bodies and joints not feel good, but that they also affect brain function, what can we do? In addition to structural corrective chiropractic… In comes Bikram Yoga.
This is where Bikram Yoga shines. It is Dr. Bogan’s favorite lifestyle practice. The practice of Bikram Yoga consists of 26 postures, repeated twice through in a heated room.
In Bikram Yoga, you get to move and work with every joint, and I mean EVERY joint from your fingers to your toes! Your spine is taken through flexion, extension, side bending and rotational poses. You strengthen and stretch your body as well as “massage” your organs and glands. Every system in your body gets attention from your cardiovascular and respiratory systems to your digestive system. Bikram Yoga benefits both your mind and body. It has been found to help alleviate both anxiety and depression, as well as help in addiction recovery.
We want to encourage our community to check out this particular style of yoga and experience its many benefits. Precision Chiropractic has formed a wellness partnership with Bikram Yoga Williston- Center for Strong Mind, Strong Body.
See you in class!
