Frequently Asked Questions

We know starting care can bring up a lot of questions. Here are answers to some of the most common questions patients ask about our approach, the new patient process, imaging, pregnancy, and ongoing care.

What upper cervical chiropractic technique do you use?

Dr. McCanse is trained in both NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association) and Orthospinology protocols.

I’m in pain today, can I be adjusted on my first visit?

Because what we do is different than conventional chiropractic, in most cases the answer is no. We understand how much you want relief and we truly dislike seeing people suffer. However, it’s crucial that we don’t rush into spinal adjustments without first gathering all the necessary information. Our approach is highly personalized and this is what allows us to achieve the outstanding results our patients experience. To do this effectively, we need to eliminate guesswork, which means taking the time to establish a solid baseline before making any adjustments.

Beyond the intake process, how long do appointments take?

Once you’ve completed the intake process, which includes a Complimentary Consultation, a NeuroStructural Chiropractic Exam and a Recommendation Conference, coming in for follow-up visits is quick and easy. Depending on your needs, a standard visit typically lasts anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes. Even if it’s not necessary for that day’s visit, you’re always welcome to relax in our Integration Room after your correction.

How long does your new patient intake process take?

We’re excited to welcome you to our practice! Every new patient starts their journey with us through a Complimentary Consultation. To give us the time to really get to know you and explain our approach to care, we recommend setting aside at least 45 minutes for this initial conversation. If you’re ready to move forward, our staff will guide you through the complete process, which includes the following steps: first, a comprehensive NeuroStructural Chiropractic Exam performed by the doctor, lasting about 30 to 45 minutes. During your second visit, the doctor will review your imaging and exam results, and, if appropriate, deliver your first Atlas Correction. Afterward, you’ll rest in the Integration Room for 20-30 minutes, allowing your body to process the adjustment before the doctor rechecks your spinal alignment.

Your follow-up visit, which lasts about 30 minutes, will involve a re-examination of the correction and a detailed discussion of your personalized care plan.

We’re here to guide and support you every step of the way!

Do I need to have x-rays? I am concerned about radiation exposure.

We use the latest 3D CBCT and high-frequency digital X-ray technology to ensure minimal radiation exposure while capturing high-quality images. This advanced imaging allows us to precisely visualize Structural Shifts, especially the Atlas Displacement Complex, which is crucial in tailoring personalized care for each patient. Because no two patients are alike, imaging is an essential part of our examination process, helping us create the most effective treatment plan. While there are exceptions, such as pregnancy, that may require adjustments to our approach, we encourage you to discuss any specific concerns with the doctor during your new patient consultation. Rest assured, the amount of radiation exposure from these imaging techniques is very low, prioritizing your safety while still providing detailed insights into your spinal health.

I have migraines, headaches, Meniere’s, post-concussion syndrome (enter your health concern/condition here), can you help me?

We’ve had the privilege of helping people of all ages with a wide range of health conditions, from simple to complex, many of which stem from the Atlas Displacement Complex and other related Structural Shifts in the spine. Because each patient is unique, it’s essential to conduct a comprehensive exam and use advanced imaging to accurately assess their specific condition. This personalized approach allows us to pinpoint the root cause of your issues and develop a tailored care plan that addresses your individual needs, ensuring the best possible outcomes.

Do I need to keep coming in forever once I start Upper Cervical chiropractic care?

While it’s a common belief, our goal is to help you feel and function better—and to maintain that improvement with as few visits as possible. Each individual is different and factors such as age, past injuries, work-related stress and overall health impact how well your spinal correction stabilizes. That’s why we emphasize the importance of monitoring your spine over time but only as infrequently as needed. For patients who want to protect the progress they’ve made, we recommend a regular checkup based on how well your spine is staying aligned (similar to how a dentist has regular checkups).

Why? Because your body is constantly changing and just like regular exercise or maintaining a healthy diet, consistent care helps you continue to reap the benefits. However, these checkups are always optional and the choice is entirely yours.

You talk a lot about the neck, do you adjust other areas as well?

We certainly do- we don’t overlook the rest of your spine. While we focus on your atlas correction, we use a systematic approach to assess and determine when and where additional adjustments may be needed to ensure overall spinal alignment.

I don’t like having my neck/back ”cracked” or ”popped” – do I need to?

No, the techniques we use at Precision Chiropractic are different from conventional chiropractic care. We never place you in an uncomfortable position or use forceful adjustments. Instead, our approach is gentle, precise and focused, ensuring that your care is both comfortable and effective without any cracking or sudden movements.

I’m pregnant – can I be adjusted safely?

Absolutely! We are passionate about supporting women throughout their pregnancy and understand the unique changes their bodies go through. Our doctors are equipped with the expertise and tools to ensure your experience is comfortable, gentle and safe. After the baby is born, many moms choose to transition from prenatal care to NeuroStructural care.
